SPARKS, Md. – James Madison lacrosse's
Olivia Rongo and
Payton Root have earned Division I Women's Third Team and Honorable Mention All-American honors from USA Lacrosse, the outlet announced on Thursday.
Rongo and Root joined 100 other players across the country that have earned recognitions. The laurels are the first of each player's career and mark the sixth consecutive season at least one Duke has been recognized as a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American.
Rongo earns third-team honors after emerging as a leader on a defense that ranks in the top 35 in the country. The American Conference Defensive Player of the Year has collected 56 caused turnovers, setting the program's single season record. The senior's 2.95 caused turnovers per game rank sixth in the country, while her 2.74 ground balls per game place her at 21st.
Root receives Honorable Mention honors after leading JMU and the American in total assists (54) and points (83), ranking in the top 20 nationally in both. The First Team All-American Conference Attacker has tallied four or more points in 12 games this season, leading JMU.
JMU returns to action tomorrow, May 8, to take on #16 Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship in Evanston, Ill. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.
