Walton, Mahtani Named Women’s Basketball Graduate Assistants

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Regina Walton and Khalil Mahtani will join the James Madison women's basketball staff as graduate assistants for the 2026-27 season, Head Coach Sean O'Regan announced Wednesday afternoon.
Last season, Walton wrapped up her collegiate career in Harrisonburg where she made 25 appearances with one start. The guard tallied 20 assists, including dishing out four helpers in JMU's win over South Alabama in the Sun Belt Quarterfinals. At the conclusion of the season, Walton was honored with the team's Hard Hat Award at the JMA's – presented to the student-athlete who demonstrates commitment, integrity, and selflessness to their teammates by setting the gold standard for the team.
The Capitol Heights, Md. native made her way to James Madison for her senior season following three years at Elon. In total, Walton has appeared in 102 career games, logging over 1,300 minutes of game action, and tallying 117 assists.
Mahtani returns after serving as one of the team managers from last year's squad, as well as a practice player. As a practice player, Mahtani played a key role on the Dukes' scout team during the program's Sun Belt Championship runs in 2023 and 2026. Prior to his time at JMU, he spent the 2021-22 school year at Division III Hardin-Simmons, where he was a guard for the Cowboys.
