Student-Athlete Development promotes a culture of servant leadership through intentional service projects in the Harrisonburg City, Rockingham County, and surrounding communities. Our student-athletes gain valuable leadership skills and build meaningful relationships by aligning their passions to community needs.
As a part of the JMU Athletics Strategic Plan, our department strives to achieve top 25 status among NCAA Division I institutions for Community Service annually. To achieve this goal, this initiative managed by JMU Dukes Lead awards student-athletes and staff for completing 10, 20, and 30 hours of community service between July 1 – May 1. JMU Athletics holds all student-athletes to the standard of completing 10 hours of community service per year.
Service Opportunities
Our office supports key experiences such as Meet the Dukes Day, National Girls & Women in Sports Day, Run Harrisonburg, Team IMPACT, and World Read Aloud Day.
