ALUMNI TESTIMONIALS
I will ALWAYS cherish my time as a member of JMU men's tennis! Besides learning how to manage a busy schedule, grit out wins when you are at the end of your rope and how to be a true teammate when the pressure was on, I formed some of the best relationships with my teammates and Coach that I will have for the rest of my life! Being a part of JMU men's tennis gave me a step up in the real world and taught me to never quit when hard things come. Go Dukes!Mike Hendricksen, Class of 2003
JMU is a place where I grew up and matured, surrounded by some of the best and challenging teammates. The JMU Athletics community helped me realize that hard work, dedication and motivation brought the best out of my teammates and myself. Being a student-athlete, if I had to explain to people how JMU affected me, there would be two things that come to my mind : dedication and family.Pierre Kohler, Class of 2019
Being part of a team at JMU wasn’t just playing with my teammates once a day and then go back to my life as a regular student. Being part of a real team is much more that that. As teammates, we spent a lot of time getting to know each other. We learned our cultural differences, personalities, we learned to deal, live with each other and we learned to fight for one another. Personally, it has been extremely gratifying to play and grind, with all my heart, not only for myself but mostly for my teammates. We all played our hearts out for the team. We had the chance to experience how it feels to play for something greater than ourselves. And I will never forget that.
JMU tennis fostered a discipline of what it meant to be a student and an athlete and the inexorable intertwining of those efforts. The experience also allowed me to be a part of a team environment which amplified the notion that you are surrounded by something bigger than yourself. It has served me well in my post-collegiate experience, as it animates how we interact with people in work and personal lives.Mark Trinka, Class of 1985
