As I near 30 years as Head Coach at JMU, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible experiences and people I have had the opportunity to encounter. Tennis and JMU is such an incredible combination! One of my goals is to keep all of our wonderful alums engaged and involved in our university and our program. I am grateful for my time on campus and want to keep everyone connected in every manner possible. Support from former players in every form helps give the current and future tennis student-athletes an example of what it means to be a JMU Duke, now and forever! I invite all of our alums to continue being a part of JMU Tennis. GO DUKES!
James Madison University and our men’s tennis program are special! These definitely are some of the best times of these young men’s lives! The education, resources, relationships and connections made are second to none. Our student-athletes embrace being disciplined and working daily towards improving in every aspect of who they are. They are looking to improve themselves and those around them. Our individuals and team grow through a competitive environment filled with adversity and challenges while providing the skills to be successful on and off the court, now and in the future. It’s a great time to be a JMU DUKE!!
-Head Coach Steve Secord, Class of 1991
My experience as a JMU student-athlete gave me the unique opportunity to combine academic excellence and athletic ambition. As captain of the men’s tennis team with players from have a dozen different countries, I learned to appreciate the power of diversity, leadership and strong values, which still guide me in my professional career as well as my private life up until now. Coach Secord, entering his fourth decade as head coach of the team, is living proof for the continuity of the program, and I wish him and the team best of success for the seasons to come. No doubt: my heart still bleeds purple!Andrew Lux, Class of 2002
WE BLEED PURPLE
I have no regrets in choosing JMU as my home to compete athletically. JMU provided me with the best weight rooms, training rooms, tennis facilities, academic study centers and equipment, plus the staff to support them all. I could not have asked for a better opportunity to fulfill my potential as the best student-athlete I could have been. JMU gives you the chance to become great. It's up to you to take advantage of it.Tate Steinour, Class of 2020
FIRST-CLASS FACILITIES
JMU men's tennis plays outdoors at the Hillside Courts, featuring six lighted competition courts in the middle of campus, making it readily accessible for anyone to attend home matches.
The courts were resurfaced most recently in 2017. Wind screen artwork and court logos were added in 2015 to improve the presentation of the facility.
The East Campus Tennis Courts, constructed in 2017, is the indoor hub for JMU tennis during the fall and winter months. The three-court facility features an asphalt playing surface and is covered by an inflatable "bubble" exterior with dual layer membrane construction with dielectrically welded seems.
The structure is supported by a dual-fan inflation and air circulation system with a generator backup and is illuminated by LED lighting.
