Bronwen Gainsford joined the James Madison field hockey program in July 2014 as a volunteer assistant coach.
Gainsford most recently served as an assistant field hockey coach at Smith College (fall 2012 - summer 2014). She also assisted Smith's women's tennis program for the 2014 season.
In winter 2013, Gainsford assumed the role of site director of Futures Field Hockey. She manages over 58 field players and five coaches, organizing and implementing plans directed by U.S. Field Hockey. Prior to the role, she was the director of goalkeepers and the under-19 coach of NOMADS field hockey from winter 2012 to winter 2013.
She was a goalkeeper at Wake Forest in 2010 and 2011. She spent her freshman (2008) and sophomore (2009) seasons at Catawba College where she began as a defender/midfielder before moving to the goalkeeper role. In 2009, she led all NCAA Division II goalies in saves per game.
Gainsford earned her Bachelor of Arts in communication from Wake Forest in 2012 and her Master of Science in exercise and sports studies from Smith College in 2014. She holds a Level II U.S. Field Hockey coaching certification Â
