Charlie Condron completed his fifth season on the JMU volleyball coaching staff in 2024 after initially joining the Dukes on March 27, 2020.
On April 23, 2024, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator after spending the previous four seasons as an Assistant Coach. In his five seasons, he has helped recruit and develop numerous all-conference performers and coached the Dukes to two appearances in the in the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship (2022, 2023).
In the 2024 season, Condron played a pivotal role in the development of Brenya Reid and Annie Smith, who both took home All-Conference honors. Despite the Dukes slipping to an 11-16 record, Reid finished with 4.47 kills per set, tied for the second-highest average in a single season in program history.
2023 saw JMU continue its winning ways, finishing with a 21-10 record and a second straight appearance in the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. The Dukes finished with a 12-4 record in conference play, reaching the conference tournament finals for the second consecutive season. JMU also earned its first win over a ranked opponent against No. 22 Western Kentucky on Sep. 2 and earned its first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournamament in program history.
In 2022, Condron helped oversee JMU's transition from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) to the Sun Belt, as the Dukes finished their first season in the conference with a 24-5 record and 15-1 mark in conference play.
In his second season under Coach Steinbrecher, Condron helped JMU to a 17-7 record, which marked the fifth consecutive season that JMU had a winning percentage above .700. Miëtte Veldman took CAA Player of the Year while she and Sophia Davis swept conference and league honors. Veldman also won VaSID Player of the Year, while Davis (First Team), Caroline Dozier (Second Team), and Savannah Marshall (Second Team) also received All-State honors.
In his first season with the Dukes, Condron helped the team achieve a record of 7-3 in the shorten season as JMU reach its seventh straight CAA semifinal match. Five Dukes earned All-CAA honors, while Miëtte Veldman earned CAA Rookie of the Year and was named the VaSID Rookie of the Year. Sophia Davis, Elizabeth Helmich and Savannah Marshall also earned VaSID All-State honors under Coach Steinbrecher's guidance.
“Aside from recruiting, hiring staff is the most important thing a head coach does,” said Coach Steinbrecher. “Surrounding our players with people of high character who are exceptional at their job is extremely important to me. After interviewing Charlie, it became very clear that he was a perfect fit for our program. What stuck out to me was his high-level playing experience as libero and captain of his team, his personality and ease in making close relationships and finally his work ethic and drive to be the best. There is no doubt in my mind that Charlie will jump right in and contribute immediately to the success of JMU volleyball. I could not be more excited to welcome Charlie to our volleyball family.”
Condron comes to JMU after spending the last two seasons at Minot State University, where he was the assistant coach. During his time at MSU he helped the Beavers with recruiting and player development. While there he helped the program win the most matches in the program’s DII history during the 2018 season.

Prior to Minot, N.D., Condron was the coach for the boys’ and the girls’ volleyball team at his alma mater, Huntington Beach High School. He led the teams to two stat championship titles and recorded 121 consecutive wins. During this time, he served as the assistant coach for the Club H Volleyball Club, helping players gain exposure.
Condron was a four-year letter winner at Division I California State University Northridge, where he was the libero for four years. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native was a two-year captain and starter for the Madators. He led the team in digs his junior season and started in all 26 matches. CSUN made an NCAA Tournament during Condron’s freshman season and was ranked nationally in his last three years with the program.
Condron graduated in 2014 from California State University Northridge with a bachelor’s of science in business management. He graduated with his master’s in sport management in May of 2020 from Minot State University.
