HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 7, 2005 -- The 18th-ranked James Madison field hockey team beat Towson 7-2 in Colonial Athletic Association action on a rainy Friday afternoon at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
The Dukes are now 2-1 in the CAA, 7-5 overall. Towson extends its losing streak to five and now has a 0-3 record in the CAA, 6-6 overall.
JMU freshman Lauren Walls (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) scored the Dukes' first goal 4:22 into the game. JMU extended its lead to 5-0 before Towson was able to get on the scoreboard six minutes into the second half. The Tigers fought back, scoring their second goal eight minutes later, before the Dukes widened the gap with two additional goals of their own.
Junior Baillie Versfeld (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Dominion Convent) and freshman Lauren Walls (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) led the Dukes with two goals and one assist each. Red-shirt junior Maureen Klingler (State College, Pa./State College) contributed one goal and three assists, and freshman Ashley Walls (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) had one goal and two assists.
