HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 14, 2005 –
James Madison (4-2-0) scored all three of its goals in the second half as the Dukes shut out
Radford (2-5-0) 3-0 in women's soccer Wednesday night at the JMU Soccer Complex.
The game was scoreless for the first 59 minutes before JMU junior
Sarah Cebulski (Manotick, Ontario (St. Mark's) headed a pass from senior
Kim Argy (Oak Hill, Va./Chantilly) into the net from five yards out at the 59:23 mark.
Just six minutes later the Dukes scored again as freshman
Kimmy Germain delivered a crossing pass into the box to
Vanessa Brizzi (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park). Brizzi hit a three-yard shot past junior goalkeeper
Lauren Bergsten (Blacksburg, Va./Dayspring Christian) at 65:32.
JMU's third goal was set up when freshman
Teri Maykoski (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) lobbed a pass from the left side to the center of the field just outside the box. Junior
Natalie Ewell (Richmond, Va./James River) then lofted a 20-yard shot over Bergsten and into the net.
Radford pressured the Dukes on attack in the early going of the second half. The Highlanders' best scoring chance came on sophomore
Brianna Kipper's (Hayes, Va./Gloucester) 30-yard shot in the 49th minute. The attempt sailed just wide of the goal.
JMU senior goalkeepers
Jessica Hussey (Kanata, Ontario/Holy Trinity) and
Amanda Hutchings (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) shared the shutout. Hussey stopped two shots in 81 minutes of play, while Hutchings did not need to make a save.
