CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Sept. 5, 2005 – North Carolina scored the game's only midway through the second half as the Tar Heels nipped James Madison 1-0 in field hockey Monday afternoon at Henry Stadium.
Tar Heel senior Naomi Weatherald scored the goal on a penalty-corner play. Assists were credited to junior Brooke Miller and sophomore Xan Funk.
North Carolina held a 7-5 edge on shots on goal and a 5-4 advantage on penalty corners.
UNC goalkeeper Katy Tran made one save as she posted her third shutout of the season.
JMU red-shirt senior goalkeeper Lori Amico (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) stopped four shots.
UNC improved to 4-0 while JMU suffered its first loss in four games and now has a 3-1 record. The Dukes allowed a goal for the first time this season.
