FAIRFAX, Va., Feb. 14, 2007 ? Colonial Athletic Association women's swimming and diving championship action started on Wednesday with two relays and the three-meter diving competition at George Mason's Jim McKay Natatorium.
James Madison University sits in 10th place after the completion of three events. The host Patriots lead the women's standings with 111 points, followed by William and Mary (80), UNC Wilmington (76), Delaware (70), Towson (64), Davidson (62), Northeastern (69), Drexel (57), Charleston (52), JMU (46), and Old Dominion (38).
The Dukes placed seventh in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of freshman Amanda Hauck (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park), sophomore Nancy Richardson (Centreville, Va./Westfield), sophomore Ashton Goodwillie (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin), and sophomore Meghan Heil (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) swam a time of 1:48.90. It was a JMU season best by more than two seconds.
Freshman P.J. Naber (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly), freshman Rachel Smith (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman), junior Grace DeMarrais (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards), and senior Allison Keel (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) teamed for an eighth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:41.84.
JMU had two competitors in the three-meter dive with freshman Michelle Callis (Chesapeake, Va./Oak Tree Academy) placing 24th with a score of 153.10 and junior Jamie Coyle (Rockville, Md./Wootton) following in 25th with 145.60.
Championship action resumes on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. beginning with the 500-yard freestyle.
