SOFTBALL DEFEATS FORDHAM 3-2

GREENVILLE, N.C., March 2, 2007 ? James Madison's three-run third inning was enough to defeat Fordham 3-2 in the Dukes opening game at the East Carolina Pirate Clash.
Fordham scored in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead when Krystle Henry came home on a passed ball.
The Dukes would strike back in the third when Katie George (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) reached on an error by the shortstop and Courtney Simons (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) scored.
Later in the inning Jenn Chavez (Upland, Calif./Upland) knocked in two RBIs with a double. George and Kaitlyn Wernsing (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) scored on the play to give the Dukes a 3-1 lead.
Fordham would add a run in the bottom of the fourth to bring the Dukes lead down to one but JMU would hold on for the 3-2 victory.
Jenny Clohan (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) pitched a complete game giving up two runs of which one was earned, on five hits and striking out four in the win.
The Dukes take on Binghamton tonight at 8:00 p.m.
