CLOHAN TRIPLE SECURES SOFTBALL WIN OVER GEORGIA STATE
4/1/2007 4:00:00 AM | Softball
JMU starting pitcher Clohan and Georgia State starting pitcher Madi Gore did not allow a run to score while they were on the mound and held the game scoreless through five innings. Clohan pitched five innings, giving up no runs, on to hits and striking out two before she was relieved by Meredith Felts (Greenville, N.C./J. H. Rose) who went the final two innings, giving up no runs, on no hits, and striking out one to earn the win. After being relieved by Felts, Clohan stayed in the lineup playing right field.
The Panthers starting pitcher Madi Gore held her own in the circle going four innings, giving up no runs, on four hits, and striking out three before she was relieved by Ashley Cowan.
After five scoreless innings, Georgia State threatened in the sixth inning. The Panthers loaded the bases after Jackie Jaegle reached on an error and Nikki Bradford and Lily Skelton drew walks. Felts forced the next batter into a pop-up to the shortstop to end the threat and the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Brittney Lyddane (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) led off the inning with a single to left field, and Jenn Chavez (Upland, Calif./Upland) followed suit with a single of her own to left. Both players advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Amber Kirk (Hamilton, Va./Loudoun County). Chel'sea Ryan (Sandston, Va./Henrico) then came in to pinch run for Chavez. Clohan then came to the plate and hit a shot down the right field line for a triple that scored two runs.
Felts held the Dukes 2-0 lead by putting the Panthers out in order in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
The Dukes will return to the field on Wednesday, April 4 when they host the Liberty Flames in a 3 p.m. double header. The game will be available on audio webcast after the game on JMU's athletic website.
