DUKES DROP A PAIR TO RADFORD

HARRISONBURG, Va., March 26, 2008 ? The James Madison softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader with in-state rival Radford Wednesday. The Highlanders won a close first game 4-3 before banging out 11 hits in a 12-3 win in game two.
The Dukes fell to 14-15 while Radford upped its record to 24-7.
In game two of the doubleheader, JMU fell behind early 3-0 after giving up three unearned runs in the first two innings. Junior right-hander Meredith Felts got the start for JMU and gave up two unearned runs on a pair of walks, a wild pitch and a passed ball. Felts pitched the first 2/3 of the inning before being relieved by sophomore LHP Branden Moss.
Felts took the loss for JMU to fall to 5-6 this season.
The Highlanders would add single runs in the second and third innings before exploding in the fourth with seven runs. Designated player Lauren Williams started a run of nine consecutive RU batters reaching base with a fielder's choice. Radford went on to get five hits, an error, a hit batsman and a walk before junior right-hander Jenny Clohan came in to stop the run.
Clohan pitched the final 1.2 innings for JMU, giving up two hits, one unearned run and striking out one.
JMU would get on the board with runs in the third, fourth and fifth. In the third, Madison got back-to-back one-out singles from sophomore left fielder Brittney Dyson and sophomore right fielder Shannon Moxey. After a fielder's choice, the Dukes broke up the shutout with junior third baseman Amber Kirk's RBI single to left field.
