DUKES WIN TWO MORE AT COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON CLASSIC

CHARLESTON, S.C., Feb. 14, 2009 ? The James Madison softball team swept a pair of games on Saturday to run its record at the College of Charleston Classic to 4-0. The Dukes dumped Syracuse 3-2 in the day's early game before topping Akron 2-0 to close out the day.
Madison improved to 5-3, while the Orange fell to 4-2 and the Zips to 3-5.
JMU jumped out to an early lead against Akron. Junior first baseman Shannon Moxey (Church Road, Va./Mills Godwin) doubled to right-center to lead off the game. She moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single by senior third baseman Amber Kirk (Hamilton, Va./Loudoun County).
That was all the offense senior right-hander Jenny Clohan (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) needed as she shut out the Zips for her second complete-game victory of the year. Clohan limited Akron to six hits, four walks and no runs and struck out two to improve to 4-1 this season.
The Dukes added a run to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Junior right fielder Courtney Simons (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) led off with a single to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Simons stole third and scored on a throwing error by Akron catcher Sarah Stromack.
The Zips threatened to do damage in the top of the sixth inning, loading the bases on an error, a single and a walk with one out, but Clohan escaped the jam by inducing a pair of ground balls right back to the pitcher.
Game one of the day featured another pitchers' duel as JMU senior right-handers Meredi
