GAMECOCKS HALT DUKES' WINNING STREAK AT NINE GAMES

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 27, 2009 ? Jacksonville State collected 12 hits and halted JMU's nine-game winning streak with a 6-0 shutout in day one of the Tennessee Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.
JSU improved to 9-4, while the Dukes dropped to 10-4.
Right-hander Ashley Eliasson limited the Dukes to just three base runners and one hit. She struck out six batters and walked just one.
The Gamecocks struck early to take a 1-0 in the top of the first. After two quick outs, JSU catcher Allie Barker took senior right-hander Jenny Clohan (Ashburn, Va./Deep Run) offering deep for a home run.
JSU added a run in the top of the second putting runners on first and second with two outs on a pair of singles before center fielder Hillary Downs singled in right fielder Jackie Jarman on a single to left-center.
Jacksonville State added to its lead in the top of the sixth, pushing three runs across to chase Clohan from the game. Third baseman Allison Svoboda kicked things off with a single up the middle in front of back-to-back singles by Jarman and left fielder Chrissy O'Neal to score the first run of the inning. Downs doubled to center field to plate Jarman and O'Neal.
Downs finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBIs. She was one of four Gamecocks to collect multiple hits. Barker finished with two, O'Neal with two hits a run scored and two RBIs, and Jarman finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
