TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 10, 2010 - The James Madison softball team split a doubleheader with Florida A&M on Wednesday as the teams took turns mounting come-from-behind victories. The Dukes made up a four-run deficit in game one, winning 7-4 before the Rattlers scored four runs of their in the bottom of the sixth in game two to pick up a 5-3 win at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex in Tallahassee, Fla.
JMU snapped its three-game losing streak to run its record to 8-8, while FAMU dropped to 8-9.
In game two, the Dukes carried a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth before the Rattlers took advantage of a Madison error to score a pair of unearned runs.
Designated player Tara Vincent led off the inning with a walk ahead of a stolen base by pinch runner Courtney Harold. JMU junior right-hander Olivia McPherson (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) got the first out of the inning with a strikeout of shortstop Erika Garcia before walking first baseman Aria Stewart. Freshman right-hander Heather Dindinger (Riner, Va./Auburn) relieved McPherson and gave up a single to FAMU pitcher Jenn Lindsey, scoring Harold, before freshman catcher Megan Shinaberry's (Davie, Fla./McCarthy) throwing error on the play allowed Stewart to score the tying run.
