Scouting Report
- Thursday's contest marks just the second meeting all-time between JMU and Elon with the Phoenix taking a 68-56 decision back on March 9, 1974. The game will be the first between the two programs as conference opponents.
- JMU holds a 4-0 record to start league play (13-2 overall) after downing William & Mary 65-43 in the second game of this three-game road swing.
- In two conference road games, JMU has defeated both Northeastern and William & Mary by 22 points. The Dukes topped the Huskies last Friday night 77-55 in Boston in their conference road opener. Last time out against the Tribe, JMU's stingy defense held William & Mary to 17 points in the second half on just 8-of-28 shooting (28.6 percent).
- Against the Tribe, redshirt-senior center Lauren Okafor led the Dukes with 16 points and nine rebounds. She also rejected a career-high six shots in the game. Junior guard Precious Hall and senior forward Toia Giggetts rounded out the double-figure scoring for the Dukes with 12 points apiece.
- For her efforts in JMU's 3-0 showing last week, Okafor was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the second time this season. Over the course of the three games, Okafor averaged 14.3 points per game while shooting 66.7 percent from the floor. Additionally, she averaged nine rebounds per game. Okafor has yet to turn the ball over in CAA action.
- Elon enters the contest having come away the victor in five of its last six contests, which includes a 3-1 mark to open CAA play.
- The Phoenix are led by a balanced attack that has seven players averaging anywhere from 7.0 to 11.1 points per game. Zora Stephenson leads Elon with 11.1 points per outing and is the only Phoenix player averaging double figures. Of her 145 shots this season, 115 of them have been from long range. She is posting a 37.5 percent shooting clip from deep through Elon's first 15 games (43-of-115). Freshmen Shay Burnett and Malaya Johnson are the next two leading scorers for Elon, averaging 9.7 and 9.4 points per game, respectively.
- JMU junior guard Angela Mickens is averaging 7.7 assists per game, which is good for fourth in the nation. Mickens is also posting a 2.52 assists/turnover ratio. She will be rivaled by Elon guard Essence Baucom, who is averaging 5.3 assists per game while posting a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio.
- The Dukes and Phoenix hold the highest shooting percentages in the conference, as Elon is shooting 42.8 percent (367-of-857) from the floor while JMU is posting a 40.9 percent mark (403-of-986). In return, the two sides have the highest scoring offenses in the league with JMU averaging 74.3 points per game while Elon is scoring 66.7 points per contest. Â
