GAME #15
Game Plan
- James Madison continues its busy opening week of Colonial Athletic Association play as it travel South to face the College of Charleston Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at TD Arena. This game begins a string of five road games over the next seven outings for the Dukes.
- The game can be seen live locally on MyTV Charleston or online at CAA.TV. It will also be heard on the JMU/nTelos Wireless Broadcast Network and on the local airwaves at WSVA AM 550 and 92.1 FM.
Scouting Report
- JMU enters his first CAA road game with an 8-6 overall record with a 1-0 mark in league play while Charleston is 5-9 and 0-1 following the first conference Saturday of the year. Madison is 1-2 on the road while C of C is 3-2 on its home court.
- Monday marks the fourth meeting between the two teams with the Cougars holding a 2-1 edge, including a 2-0 mark in Charleston. JMU's lone win in the series came in the previous meeting last season in Harrisonburg, a 58-56 win for the Dukes on Jan. 25, 2014.
- In that game, Jackson Kent posted his freshman-best 17 points while Andre Nation and Ron Curry had 15 and 12, respectively. Kent tallied 10 of his points during a pivotal stretch in the second half, which gave the Dukes the lead for good as they fended off the Cougs at the end on a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer.
- Last time out, JMU notched CAA win number one with a 61-52 victory Saturday over Towson at the JMU Convocation Center. The Dukes shot a season-best 59 percent from the floor, which was the highest field-goal percentage in four years when they shot 59.1 percent against Georgia State (Jan. 13, 2011).
- Jackson Kent led the way with 15 points while Yohanny Dalembert and Andre Nation combined for 26 points in the win. Leading by just four at half, JMU opened the second on a 14-2 run to take a commanding 16-point lead and despite a 10-0 run by TU later in the second, the Dukes sealed the win with free throws down the stretch.
- Comparing the two teams for Monday's matchup, JMU averages 65.6 points while allowing 67.1 as opposed to Charleston's 58.5 points for and 65.9 against. In addition to the scoring woes for the Cougars, they also struggle on the glass, being outrebounded by 6.7 boards on average. Madison shoots 43.5 percent from the floor while Charleston shoots 40.5 percent.
- Players to watch are JMU's Jackson Kent and College of Charleston's Joe Chealey. Kent leads the Dukes with 11.9 points per game and is the most prolific 3-point shooter, shooting nearly 44 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks sixth in the CAA. He knocked down three treys Saturday, a mark he has achieved in six games this season. Chealey leads the Cougars with 11.0 points per game and has seven double-figure scoring performances, including 30 against Charlotte.
- Following this game, JMU returns home to host CAA favorite Northeastern on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
