Scouting Report
- Going for the program's 1,000th victory, JMU continues the 2015 conference slate against UNCW Tuesday night at the JMU Convocation Center. The Dukes have won 16 consecutive games at the JMU Convocation Center, all in front of at least 2,000 fans. The home win streak is the fifth longest in the nation.
- As a program, JMU has 999 confirmed victories over 94 years in existence. With a win Tuesday night, the Dukes would become just the third team in Division I history to reach 1,000 program victories, joining Tennessee (1,287 wins) and Louisiana Tech (1,060 wins).
- The Dukes and Seahawks have faced off 63 times over the years with the Dukes holding a 54-9 edge in total wins. Head Coach Kenny Brooks owns a 17-5 record all-time against UNCW and has a 9-2 mark at home against the Seahawks. UNCW's last win at the Convo came Feb. 19, 2009, as the Dukes have won each of the last five meetings in Harrisonburg, including a 92-43 win on Valentine's Day last year.
- With a come-from-behind, 67-66 victory Sunday afternoon over Towson, JMU posted its second win of the season after trailing by double digits. The Dukes fell behind early against the Tigers and trailed by as many as 13 points before pulling out the thrilling win. Madison opened the season with a win over then-No. 23 UCLA after trailing by 14 at the start of the second half.
- Against the Tigers, redshirt-senior center Lauren Okafor led the scoring for JMU with 14 points while pulling down eight rebounds. Junior guard Precious Hall tallied 13 points while senior forward Toia Giggetts notched 11 points to round out the double-figure scoring for the Dukes. Junior guard Angela Mickens finished with nine assists to push her career total to 284, which is good for 14th in program history. Krissy Heinbaugh is 13th all-time with 301 career assists.
- With her 11 points on Sunday against Towson, Giggetts needs just one point to reach the 1,000-point plateau. She is looking to become the second player to accomplish the feat this season, as Hall surpassed the figure on Dec. 7 in a 73-57 win over Davidson in North Carolina.
- UNCW enters with a record of 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the CAA after topping William and Mary 63-62 on Sunday in Wilmington, North Carolina. The win snapped a two-game losing streak in which the Seahawks lost to Florida Atlantic and Stetson, both on the road. Thus far, UNCW has only played three away games, but has dropped all three contests.
- The Seahawks' offense runs through Kelva Atkins, who is averaging 19.3 points per game. Her two highest point totals were 40 on Dec. 20 and 37 on Dec. 29 in consecutive games against Charleston Southern and Florida Atlantic. Brie Mobley rounds out the double-figure average with 11.3 points per game. Ryan Flowers and Teague Nagiyyah anchor the Seahawks down low with 9.3 and 8.2 rebounds per game, respectively. Flowers, however, is the reigning CAA Player of the Week after averaging a double-double over the last three games with 13.3 rebounds and 11.7 points on 62.9 percent shooting.
- JMU leads the conference in rebounding offense at 45.8 per game, but UNCW checks in at No. 2 in the conference with an average of 42.5. The Seahawks are also second to JMU in offensive rebounds with the Dukes hauling in 17.6 per contest and UNCW pulling down 15.9.
