Dukes Douse Dragons, 4-0, to Remain Undefeated in CAA Play
10/9/2015 11:30:00 PM | Field Hockey
HARRISONBURG, Va. – No. 18 James Madison field hockey overcame a two-hour weather delay to shut out Drexel 4-0 Friday night at the JMU Field Hockey Complex, remaining undefeated in Colonial Athletic Association action at 3-0 and improving to 9-3 overall. The Dragons dropped to 4-7 overall with a 1-1 mark in league play.
The weather delay came less than nine minutes into play and forced both teams off the field for two hours. While the teams were tied at 0-0, the Dukes held a 6-0 shot advantage over the Dragons heading into the break.
Once play resumed at 8:08 p.m., JMU wasted little time in attacking the cage and fired off three more shot attempts and picked up a pair of penalty corners. The Dragons held strong and regained possession, heading into their own attacking zone for three shots on goal and penalty corner, but the Dukes were able to regroup and strike first in the 15th minute, never looking back.
Three different Dukes scored in the win over the Dragons, led by freshman Melissa Wilken at two. Redshirt senior Taylor West led the night with four points after two assists and a goal that moved her into a tie for sixth overall in JMU career goals (49). Freshman Kim Hitchcock rounded out the scoring with her first collegiate tally.
JMU returns to the field on Sunday, Oct. 11, to continue CAA play against Northeastern at home.
