Scouting Report
- Looking for its 12th win in a row on Thursday afternoon, JMU takes on Towson for the second time this season Thursday as part of the Tigers' Education Day at SECU Arena. The Dukes came away victorious in the first meeting of the season on Jan. 4, a 67-66 decision in the league opener for both squads at the JMU Convocation Center. JMU holds a 36-3 advantage in 39 all-time meetings between the two sides. Last season at SECU Arena, JMU emerged with a 62-57 win.
- JMU continued receiving votes in the AP Poll this week, up to nine points and 32nd most in nation, as well as the USA Today Coaches Poll, up to 51 points and holding steady at 26th most in the nation. In the latest release of RPIs, the Dukes ranked 21st nationally.
- Madison extended its longest winning streak of the season to 11 games last time out with a 73-54 victory over Drexel in Philadelphia. The Dukes had three players in double figures with junior guard Precious Hall leading the way with 19 points. Both redshirt-senior center Lauren Okafor and junior forward Destiny Jones tallied 11 points in the winning effort.
- The first meeting between JMU and Towson was JMU's closest game of the conference season to date, as the Dukes were forced to come from behind to pull out the one-point victory. In conference play, JMU has posted a point differential of plus-19.4 while beating five opponents by 20 or more points. Madison's largest conference win came on Jan. 22 against William & Mary, a 92-50 victory.
- Though junior point guard Angela Mickens notched her first point-rebound double-double last Friday at Hofstra when she dropped 11 points and snagged a career-high 11 rebounds, she still ranks third in the nation with an average of 7.6 assists per game. Last week, Mickens was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List, which honors the top Division I point guard in the nation. Her 2.61 assists turnover ratio ranks 14th in the country.
- With an average of 3.36 made three-pointers per game thus far, Hall ranks third in the nation in the category. Kelsey Mitchell of Ohio State is tops in the country, making 3.79 shots from range per game. Hall has scored 174 3-pointers in her career, third most in JMU history, with 74 of those made baskets coming this season, the eighth-highest total for a season in JMU history.
- LaTorri Hines-Allen leads the Tigers in scoring 17.3 points per game while shooting 40.7 percent from the floor. She is also averaging 9.7 rebounds per contest. When the two programs met in January, Hines-Allen dropped 31 points as well as 10 points. The only other Towson player in double figures is Dominique Johnson, who is averaging 13.1 points per game.
- Hall and Hines-Allen are two of the leading scorers this season in the CAA. Hall's 21.0 points per game lead the league while Hines-Allen's average of 17.3 points per contest is tied with UNCW's Kelva Atkins for second highest.
- While the Tigers are 10-14 overall, they are 6-4 at home, including a 4-2 home mark in CAA play and wins in two of their last three games at SECU Arena.
- Head Coach Kenny Brooks currently holds 301 wins at the helm of the Dukes. Another win will move him into a tie with Shelia Moorman for the most wins in JMU women's basketball history (302).
