Scouting Report
- The Dukes meet Hofstra for the second and final time this regular season with JMU having taken the last seven contests. Earlier this season, JMU earned a 77-68 victory over the Pride in Hempstead, N.Y.
- Madison jumped into the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls this week after spending the last few weeks receiving votes. In the AP Poll, JMU checked in at No. 23, which marks the first time the Dukes have been in the poll since the 2009-10 season. Coming in at No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, it's the fourth time JMU has been ranked in the poll this season, but it is the highest since checking in at No. 15 on April 1, 1991.
- On Thursday against UNCW, the two sides were locked in a battle throughout the first half before the Dukes pulled away in the second frame. Junior guard Precious Hall led the Dukes with 25 points, 17 of which came in the first half. Junior guard Ashley Perez chipped in 13 points and redshirt-junior guard Jazmon Gwathmey added 11 points to round out the double-figure scorers for the Dukes.Â
- Junior guard Angela Mickens was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 11.0 points per game on 75.0 percent shooting (6-of-8) from the floor and 71.4 percent shooting (10-14) from the free-throw line. She also contributed 9.5 assists per game with 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per contest. Recently named to the Lieberman Award Watch List, which honors the nation's top point guard in women's college basketball, Mickens ranks fourth in the country with an average of 7.6 assists per game while her assist to turnover ratio stands at 2.79, good for seventh in the country.
- Hall was named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason 30 list last week. The award honors the top player in women's college basketball. She stands 21st in the nation and first in the CAA with an average of 20.8 points per game and is third nationally in made three-pointers per contest, knocking down 3.24 shots from range per game. She's also added 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season.
- The Pride enter Sunday's game winners of each of their last four contests. Hofstra's last loss came to JMU on Feb. 6 when Madison Head Coach Kenny Brooks earned his 300th win at JMU. Brooks has since become the winningest coach in JMU women's basketball history, now at 304 wins.
- Hofstra is led by Kelly Loftus, who is averaging 12.6 points per contest while Ashunae Durant is chipping in an average of 11.5 points per contest. Guard Darius Faulk averages 5.0 assists per game while the Pride is led by Elo Edeferioka on the boards with an average of 8.8 rebounds per game.
- Last time these two teams met, JMU's Hall led the way with 23 points while Loftus dropped 30 points on the Dukes - 28 of which came in the second half - during a second-half comeback attempt, but JMU thwarted the rally to hold on for the victory.
