JMU Earns Third Straight Win with 4-1 Triumph at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. – James Madison field hockey (3-1) notched its third consecutive win with a 4-1 victory at Richmond (2-3) on Friday evening.

The Dukes led in total shots 15-4, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Spiders lone goal came in the 52nd minute when Emma Johansson popped the ball over goalkeeper Sara Kraeutler. Kraeutler finished the day allowing just one goal and making two saves.

Freshman Melissa Wilken had her first multi-goal game and tied senior Loes Stijntjes for the team high in goals at two. Both goals by Wilken came off deflections while Stijntjes scored both of her goals off corners. JMU won the corner battle 5-2.

"This was a well-played game against a very good team," Head Coach Christy Morgan said. "We played with discipline and determination. Our goal was to play the JMU style – fast-paced and with great control. We are a young team and growing with each opportunity.
