PINEHURST, N.C. - Junior
Maddisen Cox secured her second individual top-10 of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday, leading the James Madison women's golf team to a 10th-place finish at the Pinehurst Challenge, held across the last two days at the par-72, 5,974-yard Pinehurst No. 1 course.
The Dukes fired a 16-over 304 in Tuesday's final round, closing their week with a score of 904, just five strokes back of ninth-place North Florida. East Carolina took home the team championship in the 18-team tournament, besting second-place Auburn by five strokes and third-place Maryland by 20.
Cox posted her team-best third round of par-or-better to lead the way for JMU, closing her tournament with an even-par 72 to tie for sixth at 2-over 218. The effort matched her best 54-hole performance to par, having shot a 2-over 215 at the season-opening Golfweek Program Challenge.
Junior
Laura Gomez-Ruiz would tie for 50th on the week, shooting a 6-over 78 on Tuesday to finish at 228, while freshman
Morgan Cox finished just behind, tied for 59th at 230, after a final round of 3-over 75.
Freshman
Lauren Comegys posted a 7-over 79 to finish at 232 (t-66th), while sophomore
Jordan McKelvin closed out the JMU scorers in a tie for 84th at 237.
Playing as an individual, sophomore
Katie Turk closed her week in 90th with a score of 241. ECU's Lisa Petterson took home medalist honors, closing her week at 8-under 208 after a round of 1-under 71 on Tuesday.

Freshman
Morgan Cox eagled the second hole, a 401-yard par 5, for the second round in a row on Tuesday afternoon. In all, the Dukes posted three eagles across this week's three rounds, with sophomore
Jordan McKelvin picking hers up on the par-4 12th hole in Monday's first round. That total matched UNCG and Georgia State for the most of any team.
