JMU Stretches Win Streak to Five with 3-1 Victory at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – James Madison field hockey stretched its win streak to five games with a 3-1 win at Lafayette on Sunday afternoon.
Tied 1-1 after an early second-half goal by the Leopards, sophomore Ashley Gippe deflected in a pass from junior Hannah Hall to give JMU a 2-1 lead with just under 15 minutes to play. Sophomore Miranda Rigg added an insurance goal about eight minutes later.
JMU led Lafayette 15-9 in shots. All of the Leopards' second-half attempts (4) came in the first 10 minutes of the stanza. The Dukes won the penalty corner battle as well, earning 11 attempts to Lafayette's six.
Hall led the Dukes with three points on the day, adding the day's opening goal. She tapped a pass from junior McKenzie Ridgely past the goalkeeper to put JMU on the board 23:45 into the game and give the Dukes a 1-0 lead that last through the first period.
The Dukes return home next weekend for their final home stand of the regular season. JMU hosts William & Mary on Friday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. in Colonial Athletic Association action before concluding with No. 7 Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 23 at noon.

JMU has won its last five matches, tying the longest win streak in Head Coach Christy Morgan's second tenure at the helm. The Dukes have also won eight of their last nine contests this season.
