- The Dukes head to Wilmington, N.C., riding a 13-game win streak after an 61-45 victory over Towson last Sunday. The win was their 20th of the season, marking the program's 11th straight year at the 20-win mark.
- Freshman Kayla Cooper-Williams was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season after averaging 7.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Cooper-Williams leads the league in blocks with 2.3 per game, and her total 55 blocks ranks fourth on the JMU single-season blocks chart.
- UNCW is looking to snap a four-game losing streak and are coming off an 0-2 road weekend, suffering losses at Hofstra (62-38) and Northeastern (69-52). The Seahawks hold a 4-9 home record at the Trask Coliseum for the 2016 season while the Dukes own a 7-3 record on the road, including a 5-1 record in conference road games.Â
- Earlier this season, James Madison downed UNCW 60-40 on Jan.31 for the 12th straight win at the Convocation Center. Redshirt senior guard Jazmon Gwathmey led the way with 24 points in the contest.
- James Madison holds a 57-9 advantage over UNCW in the all-time series that dates back to 1985. The last time the Dukes fell to the Seahawks in Wilmington was on Feb.14, 2010 as JMU has won the last 11 staight match-ups.
- Through games on Feb. 24, JMU ranked third nationally in 3-point field-goal defense (.242), fifth in rebounds per game (46.00), which includes the seventh-best offensive rebounding production per game (17), and ninth in field-goal percentage defense (.344).
- Senior point guard Angela Mickens is sixth nationally in assists per game (7.0) and 11th in total assists (174). Her 616 career assists are sixth amongst all active players in NCAA women's basketball and her 5.09 assists per game for her career is 11th.
- FORMAT:Â Instead of two 20-minute halves, women's basketball games will now have four 10-minute periods with an intermission between the first and second periods and the third and fourth periods as well as a 15-minute halftime intermission.
- FOULS:Â A player will be awarded two free throws for each common foul committed by a team starting with the fifth team foul in each period - there are no more 1-and-1 situations. Team foul counts will reset at the beginning of each period.
- TEAM-CALLED TIMEOUTS:Â Each team will have four timeouts to be used during the course of the game (three 30-second timeouts and one full 60-second timeout). Three timeouts carry over to the second half; if no timeout is taken in the first half, a team loses one 30-second timeout. If the game goes past regulation, one 30-second timeout is awarded for each extra period, plus the remaining second-half timeouts.
- MEDIA TIMEOUTS (2:45 in length):Â There will be seven media timeouts during regulation time: three prior to halftime and four after halftime. The intermission between the first and second periods as well as the intermission between the third and fourth periods will count as media timeouts. Each period will have one media timeout at either the first team-called timeout of the period OR the first dead ball at or below the five-minute mark. A floating media timeout will take place during either the third or fourth period at the first team-called timeout. This will not eliminate the set media timeout of that period.
