NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Six James Madison student-athletes were honored for their academic achievements during the 2015-16 year, earning spots on the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team.

Of the six awardees, five were named to their respective College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Teams and one earned Academic All-America accolades. Three were previously honored as JMU Scholar-Athletes of the Year, and the group has compiled four CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards over the past two seasons.

Lawler became JMU's first CoSIDA Academic All-American since 2013 when she was voted to the Second Team this spring. Stewart and Richards were named JMU Scholar-Athletes of the Year for the 2015-16 year, while Roppert earned the recognition for the 2014-15 year.Â

Stewart claimed back-to-back CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year laurels for women's cross country in 2014 and 2015, and in 2015-16, Czulada and Lawler each notched the honor for swimming and diving and women's lacrosse.

In addition, four of the six advanced to NCAA postseason action as a team or an individual during the 2015-16 athletic year.Â

Richards helped lead JMU football to the No. 5 overall seed for the 2015 NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. Lawler and the lacrosse team earned an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship tournament.Â

Lehman, the CAA Diver of the Year, won the 1-meter event at the NCAA Zone A Diving qualifiers and advanced to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in both diving events. Stewart qualified for the NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Championships in the 10,000-meter run.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete had to earn at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore. A total of 234 student-athletes from 41 colleges and universities across the state were recognized.

About VASID:Â VaSID is comprised of sports information or athletics communications professionals from intercollegiate institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Membership is open to any individual affiliated with one of the state's institutions at the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, USCAA, NJCAA, community college and independent levels, provided that individual's area of responsibility lies within the realm of sports information.
