HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sophomore Miranda Rigg posted her second hat trick of the season to lead James Madison field hockey (4-2) to a 5-2 win over New Hampshire (2-5) and keep the Dukes unbeaten streak at home alive (4-0).
Rigg sparked the Dukes three-goal first half as they kept the Wildcats without a shot-on-goal in the first stanza. UNH broke up the shutout in the 46th minute by scoring a rebound shot from a penalty corner, but Rigg answered less than five minutes later in a 1-on-1 battle with the goalie. She answered the Wildcats' second goal as well, dribbling down the baseline and slotting the ball home to cap the JMU scoring.
JMU edged UNH in penalty corners 8-7, but the Wildcats secured all seven attempts in the second half. New Hampshire also outshot the Dukes 13-11 in the second half after JMU held the 8-1 shot advantage in the first.
The Dukes head back on the road for an afternoon contest at No. 13 Old Dominion on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m.
