#15 JMU Battles #1 Duke, Falls 3-1

HARRISONBURG, Va. – No. 15 James Madison field hockey battled No. 1 Duke wire-to-wire, but the Dukes fell 3-1 to the Blue Devils in their first loss of 2017 (5-1).

Knotted at 0-0 coming out of halftime, Duke quickly put a pair on the board with five minutes of the restart. JMU cut into the lead off a corner redirect by junior Miranda Rigg in the 53rd minute, but a Blue Devil goal less than three minutes later solidified the win for Duke.

HOW WE GOT HERE
LEADING THE WAY
Junior Miranda Rigg scored her team-best sixth goal of the season on Sunday, pushing her season point total to 13. Rigg joined the 30-goal club with the tally.

SHARING IS CARING
With sophomore Florien Sondern's assist on Rigg's goal, she earned the 11th assist of the season on 16 total goals.
CORNER PLAY
JMU earned five corners against Duke, the second-highest single-game total for the Dukes this season. Their season high came in the season opener at then-No. 25 Liberty (6).

- JMU opened the game with a 6-1 edge in shots over the first 26:50
- Eight of Duke's 9 first-half shot attempts came in the final six minutes before halftime, aided by four penalty corners. Five were on-goal, saved by senior goalkeeper Sara Kraeutler (4) and sophomore defender Florien Sondern (1).
- Duke's Rose Tynan was a part of all three Blue Devil goals.
