RICHMOND, Va. – No. 17 James Madison field hockey (7-3) scored a season-high five goals in a 5-1 victory at Richmond (2-8) on Friday afternoon.

After the Spiders had the first goal of the afternoon, the Dukes shut them out for the final 55:11 of play. Junior Corey Mayer led the Dukes with a pair of goals and senior Hannah Hall tallied a season-high five points, having a hand in four of five scores.

HOW WE GET HERE

Richmond scored the first goal before JMU scored the next four.
Senior Hannah Hall tied the game at 1-1 on her first penalty stroke of the season.
Junior Miranda Rigg took a feed from Hall to give JMU a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
Junior Corey Mayer scored two goals in the second half within a three-minute span.
Sophomore Florien Sondern converted the Dukes' fifth corner attempt of the night for a 5-1 lead.

MAYER'S MARK
Junior Corey Mayer's two goals in the second half represented her first scores of the 2017 season and the first multi-goal game of her career.

HALL'S HELPERS
Senior Hannah Hall tallied five points on the night between a goal and three assists, marking her season high and one off tying her career high (6pts vs. Longwood, Aug. 30, 2016).

NUMBERS OF NOTE

JMU's five goals are the most in a single game since a 5-2 win at Drexel last season (Oct. 9, 2016).
The Dukes outshot the Spiders 23-4, including a 17-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Of 22 active on the roster, 20 Dukes saw action in today's victory.

GETTING RIGG-Y WITH IT
Junior Miranda Rigg scored her ninth goal of the season, pushing her career total to 33. She is only three goals from cracking the top 15 in JMU history after scoring in five of the last six games.
