#22 Ohio State’s Fast Start Pushes Buckeyes Past JMU

COLUMBUS, Ohio – James Madison field hockey was unable to stop #22 Ohio State on Friday evening in a 5-0 loss on the road. JMU was held to just five shots on the game by the Buckeyes defense.
Ohio State (9-6) controlled the ball for the opening frame keeping JMU (4-8) without a shot until the 25th minute. The Buckeyes also held the Dukes without a corner in the first half compared to their five, which kept them in the lead 4-0 at halftime. The Buckeyes were only able to get the ball in the cage one final time in the second half with Kyler Zampiello making the second half start. The redshirt-junior stopped three shots in her 35 minutes played.

JMU will return home to host Saint Francis (PA) in a midweek contest on Tuesday, October 16 at 6 p.m. The game will also be the Dukes Purple Pups game.

GAME NOTES
- This marked just the second loss to Ohio State when playing in Columbus
- It also marked the largest win by OSU over JMU. Their last largest win was the only other win for the Buckeyes when playing in Columbus (October 9, 1981)
- Ohio State is now 8-1 on the season when it records the first goal
- This was just the second time this season the Dukes have been shutout. The other one was at Old Dominion [3-0 (September 2)].
- JMU's two corners are the least awarded penalty corners since against their one at Delaware on November 6, 2016. They have recorded two penalty corners on four other occasions since then with this being the third game this season with two corners awarded.
- The Dukes were held to just five shots which is the least since being held to three at #4 Duke on September 23.
