Dukes Fall in CAA Semifinals

NEWARK, Del. – James Madison field hockey's season came to an end in the CAA Semifinal game after falling 8-1 to the regular-season champions Delaware. This marked the second straight year the Dukes were knocked out of the tournament in the semifinals.

JMU (6-12) came out of the gates quick in hopes of scoring early to hold off the Blue Hens. However, after the Dukes first goal, the Blue Hens (13-6) came back and was able to capitalize off of their corners. The Dukes were outshot 18-7 and Delaware held the advantage in corners 7-4. Â

- Caitlin Nelson stopped her second penalty stroke of the year in the first half
- Delaware used the most of their corners scoring two of the four goals in the first half off of corners
- Mali tallied her seventh goal of the season
- Delaware's eight goals scored is tied for the most in a CAA game. It ties their eight scores against Hofstra on November 6, 2015, at JMU
- JMU's seven shots were the least since five shots taken against #22 Ohio State (10/12/18)
- The Dukes' four corners were the least since they were awarded none at Northeastern (10/21/18)

Following the tournament, junior freshmen Ongeziwe Mali and Kara McClure were honored for their performances throughout the CAA Tournament, earning spots on the 11-player CAA All-Tournament Team.
