- James Madison men's basketball continues a three-game homestand on Tuesday evening, playing its second straight game on its home court in a 7 p.m. matchup against Coppin State.
- On Saturday afternoon, juniors Darius Banks and Matt Lewis powered the Dukes to a 78-71 win over New Hampshire that saw the Dukes never trail as they built leads of 24 in both the first and second halves. Banks racked up a career-high 23 points in the win, while Lewis added 20 to go with eight boards on the day.
- The Dukes took a step forward in 2018-19, going 14-19 on the year, including a 6-12 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play while losing just two seniors to graduation.
- Despite the graduation of departed guard Stuckey Mosley, the Dukes reuturn three other players who averaged double-digit scoring last season in Lewis (16.4ppg) and Darius Banks (12.3) and junior forward Dwight Wilson (10.2), who also pulled down 7.8 rebounds per contest in a breakout sophomore season.
- Prior to the season, both Lewis and Banks were named to Preseason All-CAA teams, with Lewis earning a spot on the All-CAA First Team and Banks being tabbed to the Second Team heading into 2019-20.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
- The Eagles picked up a 68-66 overtime win over Cornell on Saturday night to improve to 2-5 on the season thus far and will travel to Harrisonburg to kick off an eight-game road trip that spans from Tuesday until the start of January.
- Senior guard Kamar McKnight leads the Eagles in scoring, adding 22 points on Saturday to raise his scoring average to 15.4 points per contest, junior guard Koby Thomas paces Coppin State in rebounding with 5.6 per game.
- The Dukes have won all three of their matchups against Coppin State, including last year's 81-71 triumph in overtime and a pair of wins back during the 1991-92 and 1992-93 seasons.
- All three of the previous meetings between the two teams have taken place in the Convocation Center.
- In last year's matchup, the Dukes scored five points in the final 19 seconds to force overtime before finding their shooting stroke in the extra period en route to the 81-71 victory. Then-sophomore Darius Banks racked up 18 points on the evening, including a pair of crucial three-pointers in overtime, while then-sophomore Matt Lewis tallied 16 points, all in the second half.
