- James Madison men's basketball will wrap up a three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon, welcoming long-time foe East Carolina to the Convocation Center for a 4 p.m. matchup in Harrisonburg.
- On Tuesday afternoon, the Dukes fell to 4-3 on the year, falling victim to ice-cold shooting and turnovers on Tuesday evening, as JMU saw a double-digit first-half lead turn into a 94-78 loss to Coppin State despite 28 points and eight rebounds from junior Matt Lewis and 24 points and seven boards from junior Darius Banks.
- The Dukes took a step forward in 2018-19, going 14-19 on the year, including a 6-12 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play while losing just two seniors to graduation.
- Despite the graduation of departed guard Stuckey Mosley, the Dukes reuturn three other players who averaged double-digit scoring last season in Lewis (16.4ppg) and Darius Banks (12.3) and junior forward Dwight Wilson (10.2), who also pulled down 7.8 rebounds per contest in a breakout sophomore season.
- Prior to the season, both Lewis and Banks were named to Preseason All-CAA teams, with Lewis earning a spot on the All-CAA First Team and Banks being tabbed to the Second Team heading into 2019-20.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
- The Pirates cap a four-game road swing on Saturday afternoon when they come to Harrisonburg, having dropped matchups to Kansas City and Rice to fall to 2-5 on the season, with wins over VMI and Evansville this year.
- Sophomore forward Jayden Gardner leads the way for East Carolina, racking up 19.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game to pace the Pirates in both categories, while shooting 57.6% frrom the floor across 30.7 minutes.
- The two programs have faced each other 47 times already, making the Pirates the eighth-most common opponent in JMU's program history, a series that includes 42 matchups as conference foes from 1981-82 through the 2000-01 campaign.
- The Dukes have racked up a 19-3 record in Harrisonburg against ECU, picking up a 67-61 victory on Dec. 20, 2015 at the Convo to make it four straight victories, dating back to the 1997-98 campaign.
- In last year's matchup in Greenville, then-senior Stuckey Mosley banked home a jumper from the left wing as the buzzer sounded to give the Dukes a 73-72 victory, capping a night that saw then-sophomore Darius Banks rack up 19 points, eight boards and seven steals.
