Dukes’ Game Against South Carolina Cut Short

CLEARWATER, Fla. – James Madison softball faced South Carolina in the final day of the St. Pete\Clearwater Elite Invitational but was cut short due to prior travel arrangements by both teams. The results from the game are unofficial and will not be counted towards either teams' records or statistics. JMU finished the weekend 2-1 at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational.
South Carolina was leading the Dukes 6-3 going into the top of the 5th before the game was cut short. Hannah File and Odicci Alexander each went 1-for-2 at the plate with one home run for the Dukes. Isabel Kelly threw her first strikeout at the plate for JMU against No. 19/17 South Carolina.
South Carolina took a lead in the first inning scoring three runs off a home run. Alexander responded at the plate by sending a ball over the left fence to get JMU on the board. Logan Newton with a base hit to kept the momentum going for the Dukes. File was next at the plate for JMU and sent the pitch over the right fence to tie the game up, 3-3.
Kelly entered the circle for JMU at the top of the second and threw her first career strikeout. She followed with a putout and another strikeout to send the Dukes back the batter's box.
In the third inning South Carolina scored three more runs off of two home runs to take the lead over the Dukes. In the top of the fifth the game ended due to prior travel arrangements made by the two teams.
