HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison volleyball started off an important weekend of matches with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-16) victory over Northeastern on Saturday at Sinclair Gymnasium.
JMU improved to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, remaining in first place in the league standings, while Northeastern fell to 11-10 overall and 7-4 in league play.

Miëtte Veldman led the Dukes with 18 kills on a .273 hitting percentage, giving her 12 matches on the season with at least 10 kills, while Junior Chole Wilmoth added nine on a .471 hitting percentage. Junior
Caroline Dozier had 31 assists and added nine digs. Four different Dukes had at least three total blocks for the match.

JMU's last four victories have all been sweeps, and the Dukes have won 14 of their last 17 sets played.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Dukes sprung out to an early 7-3 lead, eventually extending their advantage to 17-10. From there, JMU cruised to victory, finishing off a 25-17 victory on its fourth set point.
Second Set
JMU took an early 10-6 advantage, and went on a 7-0 run which included two aces from
Savannah Marshall. The Huskies took six of the next seven to cut the lead to 18-12, but the Dukes took seven of the final 10 points, finishing a 25-15 set victory with a 4-0 run.
Third Set
James Madison started out ahead, but the Huskies kept the set close early, pulling to within 11-10. However, the Dukes closed out the match 25-16 by outscoring the Huskies 14-6 the rest of the way. Veldman recorded three kills in four JMU points as the Dukes extended their lead.

James Madison and Northeastern will close out the weekend series on Sunday, Oct. 31 at Sinclair Gymnasium. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET.
