HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison volleyball took charge of its match against Towson, winning 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-19) at Godwin Hall on Saturday.
JMU improved to 16-5 overall and took over first place at 10-3 in the conference standings, while Towson fell to 21-4 overall and 9-4 in league play.
Sophomore Miëtte Veldman led the Dukes with 17 kills and 13 digs, her sixth double-double of the season. Junior Caroline Dozier added 36 assists, and sophomore Savanah Cockrill had four blocks to lead James Madison.

JMU's last six victories have all been sweeps, and the Dukes have won 20 of their last 23 sets played.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
Towson won the first six points of the set, but the Dukes quickly battled back, taking the lead at 13-12. With the set tied at 17, the Dukes went on a 3-0 run to gain a 20-17 lead, but Towson fought to tie the score at 23. However, the Dukes won the final two points of the set with a kill from junior Sophia Davis and a Towson attacking error.
Second Set
The second set featured 13 ties and five lead changes. With the score tied at 12, the two sides traded 3-0 runs twice, keeping the set even at 18. From there, the Dukes won seven of eight to take command of the set. Davis and sophomore Elizabeth Helmich combined to block the final point, as JMU wrapped up a 25-19 victory.
Third Set
See three had another five lead changes and seven ties. Down 12-10, JMU won six of eight to take an 18-14 lead, which would not be relinquished. Helmich finished off the match with a kill and a block assist with Davis, as the Dukes won their second straight set 25-19.
UP NEXT
The Dukes and Tigers will square off again at Godwin Hall on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. ET. The match will be streamed on FloSports and the JMU volleyball senior class will be honored after the match.
