GREENVILLE, S.C. - James Madison closed out the weekend with the third-lowest round in program history on Sunday afternoon, as the Dukes took home fifth place at the Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted at the par-72, 6,234-yard Furman University Golf Course.
The Dukes climbed a pair of spots on a strong 13-team leaderboard with a final-day 286 (-2), their fourth round under par this season in just nine attempts. JMU finished just five shots behind fourth-place Coastal Carolina with a final score of 879 (+15) after opening rounds of 295 and 298.
Junior
Kate Owens led the way, opening with a round of 71 (-1) on Friday and posting back-to-back rounds of 72 (E) on the weekend, playing her final seven holes in -4 on Sunday afternoon to climb into sole possession of sixth among 72 players at 215 (-1).
Sophomore
Kendall Turner and freshman
Tatum Walsh paced the Dukes on Sunday, firing matching rounds of 71 (-1) on the final day of competition. Turner (77-74-71) climbed into a tie for 22nd at 222 (+6), while Walsh vaulted into a tie for 37th at 226 (+10).
Sophomore
Amelia Williams took home sole possession of 21st with, providing consistent scoring with rounds of 73-74-74 to finish at 221 (+5), while sophomore
Ana Tsiros closed her week with an even-par 72 to climb into a tie for 44th at 229 (79-78-72).
Playing as an individual, senior
Carly Lyvers tied for 63rd in her first action of the year, carding rounds of 75-84-79 on the weekend.
NOTES FROM THE COURSE

Kate Owens carded her 19th, 20th and 21st career round of par or better at Furman, setting the new program record for par-or-better rounds in a career.
- All four counting scores for JMU's final round were at par or better for just the second time in program history.
- With six rounds of par or better at Furman, the Dukes have now combined for 18 such rounds through just three events, already tied for the most in program history in a single season.
- The Dukes' final round was tied for the second-lowest in the field on Sunday, trailing only a 284 (-4) from host Furman on its home course.
