ABOUT NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY
National Girls & Women in Sports Day is in its 36th year of honoring the accomplishments of female athletes and encouraging continued participation in sports by girls and women. The celebration began in 1987 as a single event to honor former Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman and has grown to a celebration across all 50 states. This year also marks the 50th Anniversary of the Title IX's passing, the land mark legislation that paved the way for female athletics at all levels. JMU Athletics is proud to carry on the message of this empowering day.
