THE DUKES
- James Madison is back in Harrisonburg to host Coastal Carolina for the Dukes' first-ever Sun Belt matchup on Thursday, Dec. 29. Game time is set for 3 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
- JMU is coming off a successful trip to Philadelphia where it won the 2022 Hawk Classic, defeating Eastern Michigan 78-43 (Dec. 20) and host Saint Joseph's 78-66 (Dec. 21).
- Junior center Kseniia Kozlova scored 36 total points, shooting 17-of-23 (73.9%) from the field. For her efforts, Kozlova was named to the Tournament Team and MVP. Additionally, her 18 points against the Eagles and Hawks are career highs.
- Kozlova was also tabbed Sun Belt Player of Week on Dec. 27. For James Madison, two student-athletes have been awarded conference player of the week in the 2022-23 season. Senior guard Kiki Jefferson is the only other Duke to earn the title this season, picking up the honor twice (Nov. 15 & Nov. 22).
- The Dukes scored 46 points in the paint against SJU. That is the most PiP for the program since also dropping 46 versus the College of Charleston on March 1, 2017.
- The win over the Hawks boosted James Madison to #12 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll and 81 in the NCAA net rankings.
- James Madison ranks in the top 25 nationally in three categories: rebound margin (11th - +12.3), field goal percentage defense (16th - 34.3%) and defensive rebounds per game (T-19th - 30.2).
- Senior guard Kiki Jefferson boasts four top 50 marks in the NCAA: free throws made (T-21st - 61), free throw attempts (T-23rd - 78), points per game (T-39th - 18.2) and points (T-47th - 219).
- Junior guard Peyton McDaniel has been electric from deep, knocking down 29-of-60 (48.3%). Her efficiency from beyond the arc is good for 17th in the nation.
- A victory over Coastal Carolina would put the Dukes at 11-2, the best start for the program since the 2019-20 campaign.
SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS
- Coastal Carolina enters Thursday's matchup with a 5-6 record, winning three of its last four contests.
- Forward Aja Blount is averaging 8.4 rebounds and 16.5 points per game, good for second and fourth in the Sun Belt, respectively.
- CCU is 43rd in the NCAA in steals per game (10.5) and tied for 43rd in free throw percentage (76.0%).
SERIES HISTORY
- JMU leads the all-time series versus Coastal Carolina at 1-0.
- Last time these teams faced each other, James Madison's Nadine Morgan scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Dukes to a 69-49 win over the Chanticleers on Dec. 7, 2001.
