BOSTON — The James Madison women's basketball team staged a second-half comeback but ultimately fell short as Northeastern won their-second straight meeting against the Dukes 65-52 Friday evening at the Cabot Center. JMU falls to 12-14 (8-7 CAA) on the year while the Huskies improve to 13-12 (7-8 CAA).
The Dukes used an 8-0 run that began towards the end of the third quarter and carried over into the fourth as
Steph Ouderkirk knocked down a pair of threes to bring JMU within one point with 6:20 to play. However, the Huskies went on to outscore the Dukes 16-4 to walk away with their first win since they previously topped JMU on Jan. 30 in Harrisonburg.
Ouderkirk led the Dukes in scoring with 13 as she shot a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Jaylin Carodine led all players with 14 rebounds.
Statistically Speaking
- JMU recorded their lowest field goal percentage of the season, shooting just 25.8% (16-62).
- Northeastern won the battle on the boards, 38-33.

First Quarter: Northeastern 18, JMU 10
- Northeastern opened the game on a 7-0 run in the first two minutes.
- Tinsley ended the Huskies' streak with a three-pointer to put the Dukes on the board at the 7:20 mark.
- JMU struggled to shoot in the first quarter as they shot 20% (3-15) from the floor, 33.3% (2-6) from three and 50% (2-4) from the charity stripe.
- Northeastern shot 50% (8-16) from the field to end the first 10 minutes with an eight-point lead.
Second Quarter: Northeastern 36, JMU 25
- The second frame was scoreless until Jefferson knocked down a pull-up jumper at 6:33, cutting the deficit to six.
- However, Northeastern shot 53.8% (7-13) from the floor to help the Huskies go up by as many as 14 points.
- Tinsley was able to bring the Dukes within 11 points at the end of the quarter when she knocked down a three-pointer from just over half court as time ran out.
- JMU saw success from beyond the arc in the second quarter with their three-point percentage of 57.1 (4-7).
Third Quarter: Northeastern 49, JMU 43
- JMU outscored (18-13) and outrebounded (11-7) in the third as they brought themselves back within six points.
- The Dukes opened the second half with a 6-0 run to bring themselves within eight.
- Hazell led the charge for JMU in the third quarter as she scored seven points on 3-of-5 shooting.
- JMU ended the quarter with an Ouderkirk three to come within six points as they headed into the final 10 minutes.
Fourth Quarter: Northeastern 65, JMU 52
- Ouderkirk knocked down another big-time three as she capped off a 5-0 to bring JMU within one.
- Northeastern responded with a 16-4 streak to put the Dukes away and complete the series sweep.
