HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The James Madison women's basketball team used a 28-point fourth quarter to top Hofstra 68-63 Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports & Exhibition Complex. The Dukes improve their record to 13-14 (9-7 CAA) while the Pride fall to 6-18 (3-13 CAA).
JMU trailed by as many as eight points in the early minutes of the fourth, but the Dukes went on to outscore Hofstra 28-16 in the final frame to end the weekend in the win column.
Kiki Jefferson led all players with 23 points while adding six rebounds, a team-high four assists and two steals.
Jaylin Carodine recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from long range.

- Carodine quickly tied up the game at 17 when she hit a three at the nine-minute mark.
- Following a Hofstra jumper, Tinsley scored her first three of the day at 7:18 to give JMU their first lead of the game.
- The second quarter featured seven lead changes as both teams traded buckets until Hofstra went on a 5-0 run to take a 31-29 lead at 1:47.
- A pair of jumpers from Jefferson gave the Dukes the two-point advantage at the half.
- JMU outscored the Pride, 19-14.
- Hofstra still held a 21-17 advantage on the boards at the break.
Third Quarter: Hofstra 47, JMU 40
- Hofstra used an early layup to knot it up at 33 before a free throw gave the Pride a one-point lead at 8:04.
- Both team were scoreless until 3:49 when Hazell scored JMU's first points of the third with a pair of foul shots to put the Dukes up 35-34.
- The Pride went on to outscore JMU 13-5 in the final three minutes and 15 seconds to hold a seven-point lead at the end of the quarter.
- Hofstra scored six points off JMU's nine third-quarter turnovers.
- The Pride ended the frame outscoring the Dukes 16-7.
Fourth Quarter: JMU 68, Hofstra 63
- JMU used a 9-2 run capped off by a three-pointer from Tinsley to bring the Dukes within one point at the 5:58 mark.
- After trading baskets, Tinsley knocked down a big-time three to give JMU a 60-59 lead at 1:27.
- Hofstra answered with layup but Jefferson quickly responded with a jumper to put the Dukes up 62-61 with just under a minute to go.
- JMU then went a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line in the final minute to put the Pride away for good.
