Another Offensive Explosion Leads Dukes To Eighth Consecutive Win

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – James Madison lacrosse's strong attack in every area propelled the Dukes to an eighth straight win with a 21-9 road victory at William & Mary on Saturday at the Martin Family Stadium.
The 11th-ranked Dukes improved to 11-4 (4-0 CAA) on the season while W&M dropped to 4-10 (0-4 CAA). It marked the Dukes' 15th straight win in the series, dating back to 2010.

The Dukes were led by redshirt junior Kacey Knobloch, who scored four goals, while junior Tai Jankowski and sophomore Katelyn Morgan each added a hat trick.

Redshirt senior Katie Checkosky dished out five assists and has tallied at least three in each of her last four games. Redshirt junior Rachel Matey commanded the defense with a career-high four caused turnovers to go with six draw controls and three ground balls. Jankowski also set a career-high with four ground balls.

JMU has scored at least 21 goals for the 22nd time program history and has reached 20 or more goals in consecutive games for the fourth time ever.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – James Madison 7, William & Mary 5
JMU got scores from seven different players on 10 total shots (.700). The quarter had four ties and one lead change with the 12 total goals. JMU also dominated the draw by an 11-2 count.
Second Quarter – James Madison 13, William & Mary 6
The Tribe cut the lead to one with the opening goal before JMU went on a 6-0 run in the final 12:09 with five different Dukes finding the back of the net. JMU scored at least 13 goals in the first half for the third consecutive game. William & Mary committed five turnovers in the period while JMU turned the ball over just once. The Dukes also scooped eight ground balls compared to one for the Tribe.
Third Quarter – James Madison 15, William & Mary 7
JMU extended its lead behind goals from Jankowski and Checkosky. The Dukes added another seven ground balls, bringing their total to 20 through the first three quarters.

- The Dukes scored at least 21 goals against W&M for the second consecutive season and third time in five years.
- JMU's current win streak is the longest since winning nine in a row between March 30 and May 5, 2019.
- The Dukes out-shot W&M 43-27, marking the third consecutive time JMU has taken at least 40 shots against the Tribe. It's the most shots in a game since Feb. 23, 2015 against High Point (43).
- A season high 24 ground balls was the most for JMU since grabbing 29 in last year's matchup in Williamsburg on April 14.
- In transition, JMU was a perfect 20-for-20 in clears, going 100% with at least 20 attempts for the first time since Feb. 14, 2018, against Virginia Tech.
- A total of 11 Dukes scored, marking back-to-back games with double-digit goal scorers.
- Redshirt sophomore Isabella Peterson had eight draw controls to lead all players and has grabbed eight or more four different times this season.
- JMU led every hustle-stat area, leading the Tribe on the draw (21-13), on caused turnovers (14-5) and on ground balls (24-16).
SEASON RECORD WATCH
- Matey's six draws moved her into third in JMU single-season history, with 82, passing Kristen Gaudian's 79 in 2018.
- With five assists, Checkosky has 35 on the season, tying Megan Riley's 1998 mark for sixth in a single season.
