Dukes Meet Huskies in Opening Round of 2022 NCAA Championship

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison lacrosse opens NCAA Championship play with a first-round battle against No. 20 UConn on Friday, May 13 on the campus of Loyola University in Baltimore.

First draw is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with radio broadcasts on the Varsity Network and WSVA.

This is the ninth all-time meeting between the two teams and the first in the postseason. JMU is 6-2 in the series and won 13-7 in Sparks, Md. on Feb. 19 this year, which was JMU's first win of the regular season.

The winner of Friday's matchup will play the winner of Loyola and Mount St. Mary's on Sunday at 1 p.m. That matchup will be decided on Friday at 3 p.m.

DUKES FACE OFF AGAINST HUSKIES IN FIRST ROUND
- The Dukes are making their seventh-straight appearance in the NCAA Championship, holding a 6-5 record since 2015.
- JMU lacrosse enters the first round on a 10-game win streak, sweeping its way through the conference regular season slate and pulling off three ranked wins during the streak.Â
- Three Dukes were named All-Americans on Wednesday by USA Lacrosse Magazine – Isabella Peterson (Honorable Mention), Mairead Durkin (Third Team), and Molly Dougherty (Honorable Mention).
- The Dukes are led on offense by Peterson, who netted an astounding 68 goals during the regular season. She was also a force in the draw circle, grabbing 92 during the campaign.
- Dougherty has put in another solid season in net with a .477 save percentage and a 9.73 goals against average.
- Durkin has caused 42 turnovers, third all-time in a season in program history and scooped 37 ground balls to led JMU defensively.Â
- Another pair of leaders are Rachel Matey who is tied with Peterson with 92 draw controls and Katie Checkosky with 41 assists, top-10 in the country.
JMU IN THE NCAA TOURNEY
- JMU is embarking on its 18th appearance all-time in the NCAA Championship, which includes a program-record seventh consecutive appearance.
- The Dukes are 13-16 all-time in the tournament. They are 8-3 at home, 1-9 away and 4-4 in neutral-site games.
- JMU has produced a victory in 10 of its previous 17 berths in the NCAA Championship.
- The Dukes last played a postseason game in the state of Maryland in 2019, dropping a 10-9 overtime decision to Stony Brook in College Park.
- JMU is just four years removed from capturing its first national championship, as it beat Virginia, Florida, North Carolina and Boston College on its way to the title.
