THE DUKES
- James Madison is set for its first Sun Belt road test with a tilt at Marshall on Thursday, Jan. 5. Game time is set for 6 p.m. inside the Cam Henderson Center and will stream on ESPN+.
- JMU heads to Huntington, W.Va. after starting off conference play 2-0. After defeating Coastal Carolina 77-56 on Dec. 29, the Dukes handled Old Dominion 68-54 on Dec. 31.
- Junior center Kseniia Kozlova led the charge against the Monarchs with a career-high 24 points, shooting 10-of-12 (83.3%) from the floor. Additionally, Kozlova recorded six rebounds and a career-high three steals.
- Senior Kiki Jefferson posted a 19-point effort versus ODU to go along with five assists. The guard also went a perfect 11-for-11 from the line as the Dukes went 18-for-19 (94.7%).
- James Madison ranks in the top 20 nationally in four categories: rebound margin (8th - +11.9), field goal percentage defense (13th - 34.0%), rebounds per game (16th - 43.86), and defensive rebounds per game (16th - 30.9).
- Individually, Jefferson is tied for 38th in the NCAA in total points (258) and tied for 39th in points per game (18.4). Additionally, junior Peyton McDaniel is ninth in the country in three-point percentage at 48.6, knocking down 34-of-70 from deep.
SCOUTING THE THUNDERING HERD
- The Thundering Herd also remains unbeaten against SBC competition (2-0) with wins over South Alabama (63-61 OT, Dec. 29) and App State (59-52, Dec. 31), placing them second in the conference rankings.
- Head Coach Tony Kemper's program is the third highest-ranked team in the Sun Belt in the NCAA Net Rankings (147th), behind JMU (85th), and Troy (125th).
- Marshall boasts a pair of top 30 marks in the NCAA: scoring defense (28th - 55.5) and fouls per game (30th - 14.2).
- The Herd's 55.5 points allowed per game is second in the Sun Belt, while boasting the third-best three-point efficiency at 31.9%.
- Junior guard Roshala Scott leads the team in scoring at 17.7ppg, followed by junior guard Abby Beeman (13.2ppg), and redshirt junior forward Mahogany Matthews (10.6ppg).
- Scott is also tied for 37th in the nation in three-point percentage at 44.1% (26-of-59) and dropped a season-high 28 points at South Florida on Dec. 14.
SERIES HISTORY
- Marshall trails JMU in the all-time series 5-1 and has fallen to the Dukes in the last three meetings.
- Last time these teams faced one another, James Madison came away with a 73-44 win in Huntington.
- The Dukes are 2-1 at Marshall, with the sole loss (81-50) coming on Feb. 6, 1982.
