CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The James Madison swimmers wrapped up the weekend at Fall Frenzy, hosted by Queens, as they finished third out of a field of 10.
The Dukes earned four top-three finishes in relays and had a pair of individual top-three finishes over the three days. Of the four top-three finishes in relays, JMU won the 400 Medley Relay.
Day One
- The Dukes earned a pair of metals in relays on the first team, claiming gold in the 400 Medley Relay and silver in the 200 Free Relay. The team of Cameron Gring, Riley Bridgman, Madison Cottrell and Jamie Cornwell swam the 10th fastest time in program history to win the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:42.34. Cornwell and Cottrell were on the 200 Free Relay team together and were joined by Sydni Diehl and Alex Volk to swim a time of 1:32.39.
- Cornwell took the first individual placed finish, earning third in the 50 Free with a time of 23.30. Diehl joined Cornwell in the finals, taking sixth place in the B Finals with a time of 23.91.
- Six Dukes advanced to the Finals of the 500 Free. Riley Bridgman swam a time of 5:00.24 in the A Finals to finish eighth. Katelyn Fitzgerald (13th; 4:47.94), Angela Ritchie (14th; 4:58.31) and Abby Maguire (15th; 5:01.61) competed in the B Finals while Riley Nugent finished third in the C Finals with a time of 5:02.20).
- The Dukes put three swimmers in the finals of the 200 IM, with one competing in each finals. Jess Pryne finished seventh in the A Finals with a time of 2:02.80, Gring finished fourth in the B Finals behind a time of 2:04.74 and Lauren Aylmer finished eighth in the C Finals with a time of 2:08.74.
Day Two
- The team of Gring, Bridgman, Cottrell and Cornwell took second in the 200 Medley Relay by recording the 10th fastest time in program history at 1:42.00.
- Volk and Rachel McCoy swam in the C Finals of the 100 Fly, coming in second and sixth with times of 56.74 and 57.82, respectively.
- A trio of Dukes swam in the A Finals of the 400 IM, with Pryne taking silver behind a time of 4:18.70. Bridgman took fifth (4:24.56) and Angela Ritchie took eighth (4:27.84). Aylmer swam in the C Finals, finishing eighth with a time of 4:37.98.
- In the 200 Free, three Dukes swam in the B Finals and three swam in the C Finals. Bousum (1:50.84) took third, Cottrell (1:51.39) took fourth and Fitzgerald (1:51.61) took sixth in the B Finals. For the C Finals, Cornwell finished first with a time of 1:52.93 and was followed by Nugent (1:53.10) in fifth and Emily Wisniewski (1:53.53) in sixth.
- Gring and Rachael Brown competed in the C Finals of the 100 Breaststroke, with Gring swimming a time of 1:06.25 to finish in fourth and Brown a time of 1:06.64 to finish in sixth.
- To close out the night, the team of Volk, Fitzgerald, Ritchie and Bousum finished sixth in the 800 Free Relay with a time of 7:30.27.
Day Three
- Maguire was the top finisher for the Dukes in the 1650 Free, finishing in sixth with a time of 16:57.80.
- Four Dukes headed to the finals in the 200 Back. Nugent took sixth in the A Finals with a time of 2:01.92. Pryne and Ritchie finished in fifth and eighth in the B Finals with times of 2:02.54 and 2:05.01, respectively. Suzanne Earnshaw closed the event out with a seventh-place finish in the C Finals behind a time of 2:06.22.
- Bousum, Volk and Cornwell all competed in the B Finals of the 100 Free. Cornwell took the top time with a time of 50.21. Bousum came in fourth a time of 51.11, followed by Volk right behind her at 51.28.
- Cottrell finished fourth in the A Finals of the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:18.56. Abby Zindler finished eighth in the B Finals with a time of 2:22.94, while Ann Chappell Ellington (2:23.46) and Brown (2:25.40) finished fourth and sixth in the C Finals.
- JMU saw one swimmer compete in each of the finals in the 200 Fly, as Bridgman placed sixth in the A Finals with a time of 2:04.23. Maguire finished fourth in the B Finals (2:06.07) and McCoy had the top time in the C Finals with a 2:08.03.
- The Dukes ended the weekend with a third-place finish in the 400 Free Relay, as Volk, Cottrell, Bousum and Cornwell swam a time of 3:22.69.
