JMU Adds Win Over Fordham

Elon, N.C - James Madison softball earned its second win in as many games played at the Elon Softball Phoenix Invitational, taking down Fordham, 8-3, on Saturday night at Hunt Softball Park.
James Madison picks up their second win of the 2023 season to move its record to 2-2. Fordham is now 1-6, dropping its fifth game in a row.
Graduate student Hannah Shifflett continued her impressive start to the season for the Dukes, leading the team with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate. She recorded a a walk, a triple and a home run, tallying four RBI's.
Sophomore Rebecca Muh got her first start as a Duke and pitched a seven-inning gem in the circle. Muh noted one walk and seven strikeouts, only giving up three runs.
Fordham scored two runs in the first inning and added one in the third to lead 3-0. James Madison responded in the bottom of the third with a two-run triple off the bat of Shifflett to cut the deficit to one. JMU sealed the victory with six runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Shifflett's three-run homer.
Graduate students Hallie Hall and Avery Pinder, sophomore Kylee Gleason and freshman KK Mathis also recorded hits in the contest.
The Dukes close out the invitational on Sunday, Feb. 19 against Michigan State and host Elon at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
