JMU Nation,
Happy summer Dukes! It's an important time of year as we wrap up a
successful 2022-2023 while also planning ahead for another new year of high expectations. Like many of you, our staff are prioritizing their summer vacations as the breaks are often limited in the world of college athletics once the year begins, but we're also excited to get back at it and begin competition!
In college athletics, as in life, it's rewarding to set lofty goals and to achieve them. It has long been an internal goal to align with peer institutions and compete at a national level across all our sport programs. We were able to realize that goal last year and look forward to building upon that foundation.
Similar to the department as a whole, our fundraising arm, the JMU Duke Club, has had lofty goals and I'm thrilled to report that they were able to exceed those goals in fiscal year 2023. The Duke Club has envisioned surpassing 5,000 donors for several years, and, boosted by the excitement of the move to the Sun Belt, they were able to increase total donors by almost 1,000 over the previous year to a record high of 5,633.
In addition to total donors, the Duke Club also smashed its fundraising records with an annual fund total of nearly $4.7 million and a total fundraising figure of $6.3 million. I'd like to thank and congratulate our external operations staff who achieved these milestones, particularly Associate ADs Scooter Renkin and Brad Burgess and their respective staffs in the Duke Club and in the ticket and strategic revenue units.
As indicated in the charts above, like most entities JMU Athletics felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and had our steady upward trajectory halted. It's rewarding to see our financial figures climb following the pandemic and to feel the positive impact of our conference moves that occurred in July of 2022.
This excitement is also evident in the record ticket sales that we've experienced for JMU football.
As we announced earlier in July, we surpassed our previous season ticket record by over 1,000 and hit our maximum of 8,718 football season tickets. We anticipate capacity crowds for all games at Bridgeforth Stadium in 2023, and I encourage you to
purchase single-game tickets now to be part of the action.
Thank you to each of you who has purchased tickets and made donations to support our student-athletes. Your support truly boosts their collegiate experience and is felt on game day! If you have not previously given to the Duke Club or would like to consider increasing your gift, please visit

The 2023-2024 year is right around the corner with high anticipation. Football media day is next week, and then our student-athletes begin reporting for fall camp in early August. Also next week, eight sport programs move into the renovated Convocation Center. All groups involved did tremendous work modernizing the Convo and converting it to fit the specific needs of these programs. It will be a huge boost for those coaches and student-athletes, and we can't wait to showcase it to you in a few weeks when everyone is settled.
Finally, I have written previously about our pledge to address concerns and improve our game day environment at Bridgeforth Stadium. I'm pleased to share that our staff has made great strides in this area over the last year, and we're excited to share those updates with you within the next two weeks.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and see you soon this Fall!
Go Dukes!
