NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion's Sanci Molkenboer managed to take an off-balanced shot that trickled past the James Madison defense for the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Monarchs a 3-2 home victory over the Dukes on Sunday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex in non-conference field hockey action.

JMU (9-3, 4-0 MAC) saw its five-game winning streak snapped by ODU (8-4, 3-1 BIG EAST) who earned 16 penalty corners in the win.

Sian Emslie, Serena Langendoen and Molkenboer all scored for the Monarchs. Rina Tsioles registered two assists, while Molkenboer and Frederique Zandbergen chipped in with one.

How It Happened
- The Dukes turned away 10 ODU penalty corners in the first half, with Schreiner making five saves to keep the score at 0-0.
- JMU broke through early in the third quarter on a corner play with a deflected shot off a Monarch from Roeper with an assist from Covarrubias.
- Old Dominion responded minutes later on an uneven break when Sanci Molkenboer connected across the circle to Sian Emslie to even the game at 1-1.
- Halfway through the third, the Monarchs converted on a penalty corner with a goal from Langendoen and assists from Tsioles and Zandbergen to take a 2-1 lead.
- On a desperation attack in the waning seconds of the third, graduate student Mia Julian took a shot in close range that rebounded off the ODU keeper to Tambroni who snuck one home with 0.4 seconds remaining in the frame to tie the game at 2-2.
- ODU managed to thwart the Dukes on their lone corner of overtime and managed to sneak one past Fricke on a broken play in the circle for the win.

- JMU and ODU are tied in the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge for the 2024-25 year, 1-1.
